Hello, I’m writing this post to let you know that Dukto R5 for Symbian has been approved by Nokia Store QA and it’s now available on the store. This new release is now available only for Belle devices (pre-installed or upgraded). This is because the new UI is too heavy for the old Symbian 5th edition devices, and all the following (Symbian^3) devices has received the update to Sybmbian Belle. This decision helped me to concentrate on the compatibility with a single platform.
When I started working on this porting of the R5 version, I added in the roadmap some new things, but my free time is very small and also the Symbian platform is loosing market, so I preferred to drop some new things in order to have the app out and published. In this category fall a new file selecion screen (I use the native one, as R4) and the ability to select a custom picture as buddy image.
In the good news instead there is a new ads policy. Now there is only a small banner, and no other dialogs or popups like in R4.
At last, some users already pointed me out that the new release activates the GPS sensor on startup. This is because of the default settings of the ads toolkit I use for the banner. I’ve already made a change to disable it and sent it to the Nokia Store QA to approve it. I think it will take a week. You’ll get an update notification in the Nokia Store one it is availabe.
I close this post giving thanks to all the users that have shown interest in Dukto, in every way: by making a donation, by clicking on the ads in the mobile app or simply by spreading the app.
This release closes the release plan for Dukto R5, that is now available for Windows, OS X, Linux (mainly Ubuntu and Fedora based distributions) and Symbian. Also a porting for the Blackberry Playbook is available by Sacha.
