Dukto R6

UPDATE: this project is no longer maintained. You can download it and use it if it works on your devices, but I can’t provide any update and support anymore. I won’t provide also any security or bugfix update.

Dukto is one of my long-lived software project, it’s now at the 6th release, with many improvements over the previous versions. One of the main changes of this release is the new user interface inspired to the Metro style UI developed by Microsoft for the new releases of Windows Phone, Windows, Xbox and all the other Microsoft products. Since I like the simplicity, the essentiality of this kind of UI, I’ve decided to make a new Dukto interface for all the supported platforms.

If you don’t know Dukto, I can tell you that it’s an easy file transfer tool designed for LAN use. I use it in my everyday work to transfer files from one PC (or other device) to another, without worrying about users, permissions, operating systems, protocols, clients, servers and so on… Just start Dukto on the two PCs and transfer files and folders by dragging onto its window. That’s all.

Dukto main features are:

  • Simple user interface
  • No server or internet connection needed
  • Zero configuration
  • Clients auto-discovery
  • High speed file transfer
  • Multi-OS native support
  • Portable version available
  • Multi files and folders transfer
  • Transfers log
  • Send and receive text snippets (eg. useful for sending URLs)
  • Open received files directly from the application
  • Windows 7 taskbar integration with progress and transfer indicator
  • Show your IP addresses on the IP connection page
  • Full Unicode support
  • Metro style UI
  • Free and open source

Dukto is a free open source project, licensed under GPL. Official releases are made by me for the following platforms:

  • Windows (XP or later)
  • OS X (10.6.x or later)
  • Linux (packaged for Ubuntu and Fedora)
  • Symbian (for Nokia touch phones)

Also there are porting made by other developers, like the following:

You can find the source code on the project page http://sourceforge.net/projects/dukto/ at SourceForge.net. Dukto has also been tested and certified by Softpedia, Brothersoft and GearDownload.

  1. Puedo enviar bien los archivos a mi Symbian, pero desde el celular a la PC me da Error: Code 5

  2. Helllo :3

I need the Symbian version for Nokia E6-00, can you post the lastest versions links? kisses
    Nokia store is dead :(

  3. Hello, I have an issue with the Linux version. I’m running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and installed the package for that distro from your repository. When dukto is open, the Linux machine is visible on my Blackberry and Android tablet, but both are not seen by the linux client. Sending from phone or tablet ends with an error message. Any Ideas?
Another problem I have with the Blackberry Version: the destination folder is not changable and wrong written (“dwonloads”). Sending not possible. This Issue is reportet by several users in the App World. So right now I can only send files from my phone to my tablet. But this works at least great! :-)

  4. @schmox for the Linux problem check your firewalling settings (distro firewall or iptables). About the problem with Blackberry, please contact the porting author.

  5. Dear Sir the Latest Dukto for android can’t be used in the background can you please fix that ?

  6. @simmer since Dukto for Android is just a plain porting for Android instead of a full rewrite, I can’t fix that.

  7. I love Dukto, it’s a very useful app.

I have a problem using Dukto in MacOSX Yosemite, it shows an error and it doesn’t open. Does anybody know how to fix this?

    Thanks.

  8. @Mauricio sometimes changing the OS X user profile picture solves the problem, please try this.

  9. Hi!

On the Android version the data transfer pauses if the app is sent to the background ex. if I switch to another app or if the screen switches off (even automatically). It’s really annoying that I must keep the screen on. Fortunately, the data transfer continues if I switch back to the app. The data transfer should be run in a separate process that runs in the background.

I tested Dukto 6.5.5 on Android 4.4.2 and on Android 5.1.1

  10. Hi, the app doesnt open in Windows Phone after GDR2 update. Please fix it, and thanks for this great app!

  11. Hi,

I have it running on Windows 7 and BB OS 10.2xx
I can send text both ways and files from the Z30 to my PC. When I try and send files to the blackberry, it gives me Error (1).
Now i’m trying to explain the exact problem, its got me thinking… its looking likely to be a permission issue on the BB.
I will fool some more with this later and could even try installing the Android release as that should prompt me for allowing whatever permissions it requires on install.
Well more a “thinking out loud” than a question ( I suppose), but either way its a great tool you have created .. thankyou

  12. Can please make it available for nokia s40 devices with wifi ,like nokia c3 01?please i really need this app

  13. Thanks for this wonderful app. I’ma able to see my pc and my phone. I can transfer from windows to android, but I can’t send files from android devices, despite of I can send text message. What I could be doing wrong?

  14. @Proartculdes try changing the destination folder on the android device.

  15. Hey, I just jumped in to tell you how AWESOME your app is.

I have been using it for ages, since the times when the kingdom of Symbian (S60) seemed to last forever.

Even now, with Windows 8.1 and Android 5.0.x, I still haven’t found any other (I insist, any other) solution, be it free or commercial, that comes close to Dukto concerning file transfer over LAN.

Keep up the good work ! I’ll try to make a donation quite soon, this software deserves it a bunch.

    P.

  16. Linux ARM version please!!!!! specifically…… Raspberry Pi version!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. Deleting the comment won’t make the issue go away.

Is it possible to disable the built-in user phoning home/tracking/statistics (the statistics your EULA mentions explicitly)? Can we opt out from that ‘feature’?

  18. @notracking there is no tracking feature in Dukto, the data mentioned in the EULA is simply related to the updates check that, in order to know if there is an updated version for your system, needs to send up to the server the dukto version and your os name and version. All traffic is HTTP so you can check that no other data is sent.

  19. @schmox

On the linux side, allow the firewall use the port 4644. Use the terminal as superuser:

    sudo ufw allow 4644

  20. Funciona muy bien en mi andorid y Linux MInt, una más con el mismo S.O.

  21. Dukto is an amazing app, I use it daily and it makes my work really easier. I have tested it on several devices (laptop, desktop & a mobile phone). I used a couple of OSs: LinuxMint 17.0 Quiana + MATE 1.8.1 desktop environment & LinuxMint 17.2 Rafaela + MATE 1.10 (based on Ubuntu Trusty Tahr LTS, 14.04 & 14.04.2, respectively); Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangoline LTS + MATE 1.6; MS XP Service Pack 3 & Android KitKat 4.4.4. Dukto is working on all, in all the tested directions; large files (>40 Mb) or folders as well as short texts were transferred fast to one device to another. I am specially grateful for packaging to PPA (please note that the gpg-key is currently unavailable: apt-get update returns the following message: “W: GPG error: http://download.opensuse.org Release: The following signatures couldn’t be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY E3757B8E0D988D6E”.

Again, Ubuntu/LinuxMint users, do not forget to allow port 4644 if your firewall ufw is enabled: sudo ufw allow 4644

I would appreciate new features in future versions such as chat panes where longer chats with several responses can be followed among buddies & the option to save files to folders chosen by the user other than what the user had already set as default.

    Keep up the good work!

  22. Two feature requests:
    1. Allow a dukto folder to external sdcard
    2. Android, background transfers (keep wifi alive while transferring)

Cheers, I love how well it works!
